Hazen Audel

Background Info

I am one of the original ecogeeks! Rob and Jonas and I had a great idea in 2003 which only recently became a reality. We've worked hard over the last several years to provide a platform to educate from. We hope you enjoy what we're doing! I am very proud to be an Ecogeek! The producers of Man VS Wild of Discovery Channel described Hazen Audel as the “ultimate Jungle book Mogley. He has an amazing knowledge of every bug, plant, animal and thing that lives it seems. A walking encyclopedia of the natural world. He is a man of incredible accomplishments, capabilities, and awareness but is a playful boy awaiting every adventure.” Hazen Audel is an Outdoor Survival expert and consultant and worked as a the Survival Expert for The Discovery Channel’s, Man VS Wild with Bear Grylls Hazen has followed his heart with everything he does. At age 33, Hazen Audel , a man seemingly with boundless energy, has experienced more of life than many people twice his age--or older. Currently a biologist, high school biology teacher, and self-employed metal sculptor. Audel has lived in countries as widespread as Indonesia, Papua New Guinea , the remote South Pacific, New Zealand, and throughout South and Central America. He‘s earned a living, among other things, through his skills as a science and children’s book illustrator, and by launching an expedition guiding business that takes adventurers and scientists into the remote jungles of Ecuador, Peru and Central America for the last 13 years. A Native American by descent, Audel was born and raised in Spokane, Wash., where he still lives much of the year. He attended Eastern Washington University, Northwest Indian College, and Western Washington University to obtain a Bachelors in Science in Biology and certifications in Art, Chemistry, and Spanish. Later, he obtained graduate studies from the University of Hawaii in ethnobotany, cultural use of natural resources, Meso-American traditional hunting practices and tropical ecology. Then he also received his Master’s in Teaching degree from the prestigious Whitworth College. To fulfill his enjoyment of teaching and being around youthful energy, he also teaches biology at Spokane’s Ferris High School. Here he is able to share his love for the sciences and life. An educator and mentor in the classroom and out, Hazen agrees that his life is busy but equally fulfilled. Audel’s love of nature, people, and having fun in life has surfaced in the production of Untamed Science. All of these videos give a glimpse into Hazen’s and his friends’ lives as rascally explorers and adept athletes, as they ride bikes across the country, climb mountain tops, skateboard, ski off glacier cliffs, sail through storms and surf waves. As a trained biologist, outdoor survival expert, teacher and charismatic character who also runs a guide business that takes tourists into the jungles of the Americas, Hazen Audel, both artistic and charismatic, is comfortable in any environment, and has the gift of translating his inner peace to those around him.
