I was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Once in high school I began spending summers exploring the lakes and forests of northern Wisconsin, and occasionally working. I went to college at University of Wisconsin, Madison majoring in Zoology and Biological Aspects of Conservation.
During college I had two incredible opportunities. First I worked at Trout Lake Station as an undergraduate in limnology (lake) research. Also I spent a semester on a research sailboat in the Sargasso Sea so that I could study oceanography, and get away from one Wisconsin winter.
After graduating college I worked as a naturalist on two sailing classrooms: SoundWaters in Connecticut and the Pioneer out of South Street Seaport Museum. After two years living on boats I wanted furniture and a dog so I returned to land and studied education at University of Minnesota. I taught at Irondale High School in New Brighton Minnesota until I finally missed the lakes of Wisconsin so much I moved home.
Now I teach at Conserve School in Land O Lakes, Wisconsin. In the summers I play in the lakes, in the winters I play in the snow. I finally found a sufficiently hyper dog, Schooner. Find your place, find your passion, and everything else will work itself out.
