This feature length film was made by Eric Bendick and was nominated at the JHWFF in the category of Best Newcomer.
Division Street chronicles the "green adventure of a lifetime," a quest to visit the most remote place from any road in the lower 48 states. Simultaneously, the film explores the concept of wildlife corridors, teh potential for "greening" our highway system and the fusion high-tech engineering wth the best and brightest environmental research happening today.
In Division Street, filmmaker Eric Bendick travels from forests to super-highways, filming animals that are forced to cross roadways. Bendick described his interest in the topic: "Early on in my research, I discovered that the farthest point in the lower 48 states was less than 22 miles from the nearest road. It was an unbelievable moment for me. As Americans, we have this fantasy that the West is still a very wild and untamed place, but that's no longer the case."
Overall this is an amazing documentary. I'm a great fan of documentaries told through the eyes of the filmmaker. In this case, Eric seems to ask the question, how do roads impact wild areas? It is full of amazing shots of roads from Montana to Florida. It is very well done and I feel should be watched by everyone.
