Liverworts: Phylum Marchantiophyta

Classification

Kingdom: Plantae
Phylum: Marchantiophyta

There are about 6,000 to 8,000 species in the division Marchantiophyta.  The are commonly called liverworts.  Some of the common or familiar species actually grow as a flattened and leafless thallus. Most, however, look very much like a flattened moss!
