Malpighiales: Order Malpighiales

Classification

Kingdom: Plantae
Phylum: Angiosperms
Class: Magnoliopsida
Order: Malpighiales

The order Malpighiales is a large order of flowering plants.  It contains a wide range of plants that may at first glance appear dissimilar.  They include mangroves, violets, willows, passion-fruits, poinsettas, St. Johns Warts, euphorbs and flax.

This order is likely to undergo changes as genetics reveal new relationships.  Under the Cronquist system many of the families in the Malpighiales were under different orders.
