The Ascomycota is a large and extremely diverse division of the fungi. This group inclues the truffles and morels, the brightly colored cup fungi, and a broad range of minute fungi that cause plant and animal disease (Dutch Elm Disease, Chestnut Blight, Leaf Curl, and Ringworm). Most of the larger fungi are in only two different classes - Discomycetes and Pyrenomycetes.
