Sharks Skates and Rays: Chordata Chondrichthyes

The order Chondrichthyes is made up of "cartilaginous fish" who lack true bone.  These include sharks, skates and rays.  These fish first appeared in the fossil record about 450 MYA.  They include the predatory sharks, rays that live in rivers and the largest fish in the world (the Whale Sharks).
