Sphenodon: Genus Sphenodon

Classification

There are two living species of Tuatara:

• Sphenodon guntheri - a much rarer speceis of tuatara
• Sphenodon punctatus - known simply as the tuatara
  

Another extinct tuatara, Sphenodon diversum, was found fossilzed in a local coal mine.
