Nerodia: Genus Nerodia

The genus Nerodia is composed of 9 species and several subspecies of snakes commonly known as "water snakes."  These snakes are relatively heavy bodied.  They have flat heads, with round pupils.  The genus includes the following species:

  • Green Water Snake
  • Plainbellly Water Snake
  • Banded Water Snake
  • Brazos Water Snake
  • Concho Water Snake
  • Diamondback Water Snake
  • Northern Water Snake
  • Brown Water Snake
