Woolly Lemurs: Family Indriidae

Currently there are 13 species in 3 genera that are grouped in the family Indriidae.  All species live in Madagascar.  The most diverse group is the sifakas in the genus Propithecus which has nine species.  It should be noted that some scientists group these nine species into only two species.  However, there is good evidence to separate the species based on their geographic distrubition and distinguishing characteristics.  

There are also 3 species of Woolly Lemurs in the genus Avahi and one species in the genus Indri

There are 7 species that believed to have gone extinct since the discovery and developement of Madagascar by humans within the last 1000 years.
