Pangolins: Order Pholidota

Classification

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Pholidota

The pangolins are also known as scaly anteaters or trenggilings. In the past they were classified in the same order as anteaters, sloths and armadilos. Recent genetic evidence however shows they are more closely related to members in the Order Carnivora.

Pangolins consist of eight different species. All species are in the same genus (Manis)
