The Tinamous, consist of 47 species of birds found only in central and south America. They are ratite birds and are sometimes placed in the same order as other ratites.

They have been introduced recently to other places, because of their use as a gamebird. They have, however, not taken hold anywhere where they have been introduced except on easter island.
