The order Charadriiformes consists of about 350 species.  Most live near the water and some are almost entirely pelagic. Birds in this order include snipes, sandpipers, phalaropes, jacanas, wanderers, skimmers, tern, puffins, plovers, sheathbills, thick-knees, buttonquails, skuas, coursers, murres, guillemots Ibisbills, avocets, stilts, oystercatchers, and lapwings.
